C-17 Globemaster III MRT Charleston, SC – Hartford, CT 5/2004 Part 1
This video was taken on the flight deck of a C-17 in May 2004 when I was going on an MRT (Maintenance Recovery Team) to Bradley Airport, Hartford, CT to recover a C-17 with a thrust reverser stuck in the deployed position. My team mates were Brad Holder (with the "Clemson Tigers" headset), and Ray Platt (standing/smiling). We were either going to fix the thrust reverser or change the engine, therefore we not only brought along parts for the thrust reverser, we brought along a spare engine, engine lift trailer, engine transportation trailer, and CONEX (engine change tooling). All of that pretty much filled the cargo bay of the C-17 we flew up on. Part 1 of the video shows the engine start procedures, taxiing to the end of the runway at Charleston AFB, and takeoff. Part 2 shows the landing at Hartford and ends with the damaged thrust reverser on the plane we were sent there to fix. All of us on the MRT Team are now retired from AFRES.
