Defencetalk.com FORUM rules are very simple.

In quest for Defencetalk.com to create a vibrant, mature defence community, we ask that you post with respect for all players - people in the news, journalists, fellow forum participants, their countries, leaders of their countries, and especially their armed forces, etc. This is an international defence community. So, when you post, we encourage you to tell your fellow community members a little about who you are - not just an e-mail address, but a bit of a bio. It enriches the discussion to know who's "behind the post."

DefenceTalk Forums are well-monitored. We will try to enforce the principle that if you would not say it to a friend in a polite face-to-face conversation, it shouldn't be written here.

By posting, you agree to the rules below. We reserve the right to delete any posts which do not honor and respect principles stated above and which do not conform to these rules, as interpreted by DefenceTalk.com Moderators and Admins.

• Do not post religious sermons in your replies. This is a Defence> forum and only topics/sermons related to defence are allowed and discussed.
  
• You must post source of your information/articles ( link, website, book, magazine, etc.).

replacement for a comma. this....isn't really....fun..to read. also watch the
spelling. [Its hrd 2 reed whn peple tipe poorly, its also trashy! This will make

on most forums, its time you get use to it here. </font>

We have an agreement among the mods and I that if a thread/post/reply that doesn't come under these two rules, it will be deleted without warning. DO not send any PMs to me or other mods asking where it went because we will NOT reply to any such PMs!

If you need help, counseling and/or personal training to understand these two simple rules - please contact one of the Moderators or myself. All of us are adults or young adults, we shouldn't have to train you guys to follow some simple rules and guidelines. Every 10 replies we have to warn people. Its time to grow up or leave if you cannot debate in a respectable manner and if sole purpose of your presence at DefenceTalk.com is to cause problems and trouble then we will be forced to do the unthinkable.

Keep the rules in mind or else your long reply may be deleted if it doesn't have some sort of source or if it contains a reply which doesn't come remotely close to the topic being discussed. If you do not have a source, post a good reason why you don't along with the post. Lets be professional and mature for a change?

What's the reasoning for this rule?

I often find some of the best information can be found on other forums. It can be useful in support of a position or as a reference and there happens to be some knowledgeable folk out there who don't post on this forum. Some of the idea's, opinions and inside knowledge seems just as valid a source of information as linking to a news article is. It seems odd to cut yourself off from a valuable information conduit.

Well, the reason is obvious:

-Spam
-Unwanted advertisement

In past, we have had issues where people would open a thread "visit my site" or "check it out." To stop that type of useless postings and to stop spamming, we were forced to have that rule. I understand that you may find valuable information other boards, but such rule shouldn't stop you from posting information just because it was posted on some board. You can always post that info and still list the source like this:

Info/source: janes forum instead of http://www.janes.com/forums/ or http://www.janes.com/forums/showthread.php... point is, if you decide to post some information and you are gladly welcomed to do so, just make sure it's not a hyperlink but do list the source.

I hope that is fair enough?

I have no problems with any measures taken to maintain and encourage forum quality. It gets tiring filtering out the muck on some of the other forums. I asked because I wasn't sure if one of my own posts wasn't in violation of that forum rule in which I link to an external forum thread.

I saw that thread and decided to leave it alone. As you can see, often times we decide on thread to thread basis. You just know when a thread is a spam and when it is intended as a source of information and to stimulate more discussion on the forum. OTOH, it would help if full article was posted and source listed.
