hello there,
I have been looking around on the RAAF, RAF, RCAF and USAF websites. I am currently at university in my second year in New Zealand and not fully satsified. I have allways been interested in flying from a young age and took some lessons when i was 16 but due to cost stopped. I am really interested in becoming a jet fighter pilot. Can anyone give me some help?

Thank you
Nick

Feeling bored? I know the feeling.....

Hi there,
can't offer any advise really but its a dream worth chasing. If your definite about jet combat role its a pity you'll have to leave home for it.
If your comfortable with rotary wing though I imagine there will be plenty of variety of flying with the A109's and NH90's in RNZAF service. Just a feeling but I think that the fleet numbers will be added to by the time you'd be qualified to fly them.
If your young and keen or old and determined its something worth trying.
I heard a story of one of the falklands fleet air arm pilots having entered training at age 28 after I think having train in law or medicine (?) not sure but threw in his lot for a change of office and ended up in the falklands two or three years later maybe more with the Harrier being so complex. But became a part of history.
Anyway I'm having similiar thoughts so interested to hear how your journey goes and what advice you get here.

Thanks
Nick

Does anyone know of any airforces that allow foreigners? or a way of fast tracking citizenship by joining the armed forces?

Thankyou

The RAf website says you have to be a citizen. It's hard to find info on the net. Ive emailed the raf so im waiting for a reply, hope i can join. I will proably drop uni if i can. :)

generally you can join other commonwealth nations defence forces, however you must apply for citizenship when you are in.

I had a Canuck mate who joined the RAAF with the situation I described above.

From what i have figured out i could join the RAAF, first i would have to apply and be given a permenent residence, from which i could join. Once you join you have to sign a document saying that you will apply for citizenship 3 months into fulltime or 6 months parttime. I wonder if it's the same case with the RAF or any other commonweaelth countries. Im glad theres one Overseas air force i could join.

Here found RAF requirements

http://www.connexions-direct.com/jo...catalogueContentID=630&render=detailedArticle

"Entrants must have been a citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland since birth, or have dual nationality with Britain and another country. There are stricter nationality requirements for some trades. For example, intelligence analysts must have been British citizens and UK residents since birth."
Hope thats the case! thanks for finding that info. Still wiaiting on a reply email from the raf, probably have hundreds to go through, Ill be patient.:)

Hey, what was your GPA in High School? What kind of extra curricular activities did you do?

We don't have that system in high school. Did pretty good in final year though. Took calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, and photography. I was in a snowboard team and surfboard team.

I'm in a similar position Ncik, first year of Auckland Uni and a flight enthusiast all my life. I have been looking into possibly joining the RAF after uni, but I kinda feel like I wouldn't really get a look in with them. It just seems they'd have plenty of british applicants already. I know that some former RNZAF pilots have joined the RAF/RAAF but they seem to mostly be ex-Skyhawk pilots with the requisite experience. And of course I'm not sure how NZ educational achievements stack up against the British ones. I could be wrong, but this is the inital impression I get.

Just keep watching videos on youtube of jets, maybe being born in New Zealand isn't going to let me join any airforces wher i can become a fighter pilot.
