, European helicopter maker NH Industries is to pay Finland a 16 million euro penalty for the delay in the deliveries of NH90 military transport aircraft, Tampere-based daily Aamulehti reported Thursday.
The penalty is roughly equivalent to the price of a single NH90.
The Finnish Defence Forces has ordered 20 NH90s for about 554 million euros. The first NH90s were supposed to be delivered to Finland in October 2004. The reimbursement being offered for the delay is approximately equivalent to the single unit price of the aircraft.
The Defence Forces believe that the NH90 will get Finnish type certification by the beginning of February, after which it can be put into service.
Finnish defence and aerospace group Patria assembles NH90s as a subcontractor for NH Industries, a company owned by Franco-German Eurocopter, Italy's Agusta and the Netherlands' Fokker.
